It’s happening!
I feel like pinching myself. I cannot believe my book is finally ready to hit the market and hopefully find its way into your home.
Like most children’s book authors, it’s been a dream of mine for a while now. We come up with a great story in our heads before we finally put our fingers to the keys to write it, and that’s just the start of our journeys. But here we are. My book is ready for your littles ones to love, learn from, and keep reaching for.
I hope Healthcare Heroes ABCs is the Swiss army knife of your bookshelf with its multiple uses. Some of my favorites are:
It depicts more than two dozen different kinds of healthcare professionals in their heroic duty. Whether they are helping a child who is struggling to breathe during a soccer game or working in an office to ensure patient care at a hospital is at its best, our healthcare workers are heroes…even if they wear scrubs instead of capes.
It normalizes the healthcare setting. Everywhere children go, they are likely to see a healthcare hero. Whether they see emergency service providers in ambulances on the street, lactation consultants helping their moms after they have a new baby, or home health aides when visiting a grandparent, it can become a fun search-and-find game for kids.
It prepares children for the healthcare they need. Getting a shot or blood drawn doesn’t look so bad when the characters are smiling at their providers. Going to speech or occupational therapy looks fun with bubbles and swings (even for me!).
It helps children aspire to become healthcare heroes themselves! Children will learn that healthcare heroes go through different kinds of training and have different skillsets, but that all have the same goal: keeping people (and pets) healthy and safe every day. Whether they want to go to medical school, get a degree in social work, or work with animals, they can achieve those goals.
It lets children picture themselves as both the patient and the hero. The diverse characters throughout the book will help children connect with the book on a deeper level.
I hope your little ones learn more than just the alphabet as they go through this book. And as they age, my goal is to have them keep asking questions as they notice more of the details in the illustrations and better understand what it is the professionals do on a daily basis.
